When you are a new skater, the different stances can be confusing. A common example would be nollies and fakie ollies. Many beginners that I have seen think that a nollie and a fakie ollie are the same thing. This should clear up any confusion.

Your regular stance is the one you normally ride in. If you are regular footed, you are more comfortable riding with your left foot in front. If you are goofy footed, you are more comfortable riding with your right foot forward. It doesn’t matter of you are regular or goofy; there are no advantages to being a certain stance.

If you are riding regular, you are just riding forward in your normal stance. You pop the back of the board with your stronger foot.

If you are riding fakie, you are riding backwards. To do fakie tricks, you would pop on the front of the board, but your front foot would be your stronger foot.

If you are riding switch, you are riding opposite of your regular stance. You would pop the back to do tricks, but you would pop with your weaker foot.

If you were riding nollie, you would be positioned so that you pop the front of the board with your weaker foot.

You can also push off with different stances. If you push with your front foot in the middle of the board, you push normal. If you push with your back foot over the back bolts, then you are considered mongo.
