Backside POP Shove It
A backside pop shuvit is a fairly easy trick. In a pop shuvit, you pop the board so the board turns 180, but your body doesn’t turn. For backside, you pop the tail behind you, and the nose spins out in front of you. First, get into the pop shuvit position. I put my back foot on the tail, exactly like an ollie. My front foot goes close to the middle of the board, but a little closer to the front bolts. I also turn my foot so my heel is pointing slightly backwards.
You should be able to ollie very good for this trick. Although you can do them without being able to ollie very good, it is a lot easier. Once you are in the pop-shuvit position, you want to pop down, almost exactly like an ollie. You may want to pop behind you a little to help you get the rotation. Once you have popped nice and hard, lift BOTH legs straight up to allow the board to spin underneath you. Your front foot doesn’t really do much in this trick, so just lift it off the grip tape once you pop. The board should spin in front of you, so you can easily spot your board and stomp it down to land.
The most common problem is exagerating the motion too much. You do not need to do a huge scissor kick or anything. Just pop down and back, then lift up your legs to let it finish spinning. Make sure you actually pop, you do not want to just sling the board along the ground.
