Famous Skateboard
Should i get the Sony Handycam HDR-UX5 as a skateboarding camera?
Ive been wanting a miniDV small light weight skatecam for awhile an the UX5 is cheap and has lens threads so i can get the famous fisheye lenses used often in pro skate videos. so my question is: do you have any other preferences? is this a 1000% positively awesome camera?
You are better off getting a camcorder that does not use disks (DVD) and/or use a hard disk drive only (HDD). These kinds of cameras have moving parts and are susceptible to being easily damaged if the camera was dropped or jolted (which using for skateboarding is inevitable). You could loose all your video. Also, DVD disks are not as versatile (you have to always finalize the disks before you can view them. The moving parts of the drives use more battery consumption. You are best to get a camera that uses flash memory and/or memory cards. Thus no moving parts and memory cards can be easily changed out and your videos can be easily downloaded from them (memory card reader, etc.).
